CLASSES
DC Fencing Club offers beginning fencing classes for children ages 8-11. Each session is 8 weeks long. The fee is $165 plus $20 for materials. (9330 Fraser Ave, Silver Spring MD)
DC Parks & Recreation offers a variety of free or low-cost classes and activities for children and families.
- Fencing lessons for children ages 8-12 with Junior Epee classes meeting on Saturdays and the Junior Epee Club (ages 8-15) meeting on Tuesday evenings and Saturdays. Equipment is provided. You must register in person at the Chevy Chase Community Center (5601 Connecticut Ave, NW). The fee is $140 for a 10 week session for DC residents plus a $20 materials fee.
- Swimming lessons for children ages 3-11. Fees range from $10-$30 for a 7 week session for DC residents. (William H. Rumsey Aquatic Center 635 North Carolina Ave, SE * Turkey Thicket 1100 Michigan Ave, NE)
The Fort Dupont Ice Arena (indoor rink) offers group ice skating lessons through its Kids On Ice® program for children ages 5-18. The lessons are free with all equipment provided. Children are accepted into the program on a “first come, first served” basis. Priority is given to returning students who regularly attended classes and who submit their registration forms by the deadline. The program has grown to include learn to skate, advanced figure skating, ice hockey, speed skating, synchronized skating, and Schools and Camps Skate for Fitness. Joy of Motion offers fun and challenging weekly classes for students in the 1st–12th grade from beginning to advanced levels in ballet, jazz, modern, hip hop, tap, belly dance, ballroom, salsa, and beyond. For early childhood dance (13 months-K), placement is determined by age as of the first day of each semester. For 1st – 12th grades, placement is determined by grade as of the first day of our fall semester. They have also been vetted by DCPS as an Out-of-School Time provider partner. PG County (MD) Parks & Recreation offers Spring (Mar-May), Summer (Jun-Aug), Fall (Sep-Nov), and Winter (Dec-Feb) activity sessions. Use SMARTlink to register for classes via touch-tone telephone or computer 24 hours a day. Receive immediate confirmation that you’ve gotten into a class or put your name on a waiting list. SMARTlink allows payment for classes to be made by credit card, debit card, or by putting money into a SMARTlink account.

ACTIVITIES
Family Roller Skating Night begins Oct 17, 2009 and runs every Saturday night through Mar 27, 2010 from 6:30-8:30 pm at the Thomas Jefferson Community Center (3501 2nd Street South, Arlington, VA). (Note: There will be no skate night on Dec 26, 2009, and Jan 2, 2010.) Entry Admission: $2 per person; Skate Rental: $2 per person
