Tyler getting building modernization
In August, Tyler Elementary School students will walk into a completely new building to match its beautiful outdoor classroom. Over the summer, Tyler Elementary will be transformed into a state-of-the-art, green, modern school. John Tyler Elementary will undergo what DCPS calls “Phase 1 Modernization”. The Office of Public Education and Facilities Modernization (OPEFM) will begin construction on June 23rd immediately following the end of the school year. The work will include complete renovation and reconfiguration of all classroom space to meet the latest DCPS educational specifications. These specifications call for improved lighting, air, and acoustics. New furniture, fixtures, and equipment will also be provided for all primary classrooms. A new wheelchair-accessible entrance and lobby will be created along with a complete reconfiguration of administrative offices. Work will continue all summer long and is scheduled for completion by August 15th.
